Pope Salmon Kill

Background

The Town-owned land on Salmon Kill Road known as the Pope Salmon Kill Property is approximately 59 acres in size and includes approximately 20 acres of developable land in the form of open fields.

In September of 2021, the Board of Selectmen appointed the Pope Land Design Committee (PLDC), an advisory body charged to: “…work with residents and consultants to advise the Board of Selectmen to develop a plan, based on recommendations from the Salisbury Affordable Housing Commission and Recreation Commission, for use of the developable land on the… Pope Property.” To assist in the planning process, the PLDC retained FHI Studio, a land-planning and design consulting firm, and charged FHI with drawing up and presenting to the Committee design concepts that accommodated, if possible, up to 64 units of affordable housing, per the recommendations of the 2023 Salisbury Affordable Housing Plan, as well as additional consolidated recreational facilities sought by the Salisbury Recreation Commission.

 Current Status

The design process is still in a very early stage. To inform the public, answer questions and hear feedback, two information meetings have been scheduled for June 6th, 2024. The first meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the Pope Salmon Kill site to orient those attending to the general areas being proposed for housing and recreational facilities. Vehicles should enter the site using the SVNA driveway.

After the site orientation meeting there will be a hybrid (Zoom and in-person) presentation meeting in Town Hall at 6:30 p.m., where FHI will present the current site design. The presentation will be followed by an open question and comment session.
